DESCRIPTION:ChiLL is the acronym for Choices in Later Life\, a seminar program that invites participants to explore their options when planning for dying and death. Those who work in this area describe it as the last great taboo. They are concerned that lack of preparation causes unnecessary distress to the dying and leaves the bereaved with extra burdens.  We aim to confront fear and ignorance with information and resources that will better prepare everyone for one of life’s inevitabilities. \n  \nWe go beyond the familiar “making a will” and whether to be “cremated or buried” and introduce the subjects of: \n\nEnduring Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship\nAdvanced Care Planning and How to Assemble an Advanced Care Plan\nHow and where to lodge your Advanced Care Plan\nPreparing the Family and Other Carers\nTo Do List in preparation for Loss of Capacity or Dying\nPalliative Care – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nWhat happens when someone is dying\nVoluntary Assisted Dying – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nDeath Doula services including Local Resources\nOrgan Donation\nFuneral Planning and How to Celebrate a Life\nGetting on with your life after the Death of a Partner\nBereavement and Bereavement Resources\n\nThe emphasis throughout is about how to access the resources\, services and people that assist in these tasks.

It will leave you feeling confident in knowing what options are right for you and your family\, whilst recognising the strength of your existing skills and experience. \nOnly 53% of Australians feel able to talk to another family member about end of life. The Ten Things to Know Before You Go workshop gives you the tools for these essential planning conversations to flow easily and productively. \nFrom accessing the legal documents to planning a funeral and understanding palliative care\, this workshop covers all the essentials and helps you navigate ‘what’s next’\, in a relaxed\, supportive learning environment with other people who are looking to plan well. \nPrevious participants have left feeling more empowered with knowledge about navigating different aspects of the end of life system. 80% of participants have reported that they took direct action in end of life planning as a result of the workshop. \nWe will assist you to:  \n\n Plan for the future and ensure your wishes are understood.\n Respond with care when a loved one is grieving.\n Build a support network that prioritises social and emotional wellbeing for end-of-life.\n\nAdditionally\, it’s important to remember that you don’t need to be facing a terminal diagnosis to start planning for end-of-life matters.
