SUMMARY:Empathy Under The Stars
DESCRIPTION:We all love a little compassion and getting into deeper conversations.  \nThis evening workshop will introduce world changing ideas from philosophy and science on the power of human connection\, compassion and kindness. All while you’re rugged up with a hot cup of tea. \nAfter introducing each powerful idea\, we will break into pairs or small groups for discussion. Every ten to fifteen minutes\, we’ll introduce a new idea or exercise and break out to chat with some new friends. \nWe’re all kind at heart and good at talk but we believe that empathy is muscle and conversation is an art. They take work and this is just the workshop to cultivate them. \nCome join us for this very first heartwarming opportunity to open up one’s social circle in a friendly and curious environment.  Meet a variety of new people from the beaches\, explore your better nature and bring a little more compassion into your world. \nThe event includes free tea\, coffee and biscuits and blankets but feel free to bring food and drink for yourself (or to share). \nThe workshop will be indoors but\, weather providing\, we will walk outside for some time under the night sky.

SUMMARY:Inspiring stories on life and death: A special night to launch the Compassionate Connector program
DESCRIPTION:Dying is all around us\, all the time. \nEvery three minutes\, someone in Australia dies. And with every passing moment\, there’s an opportunity for more connection\, love\, and resolution. \nThere has never been a more urgent time to address the state of death and dying in Australia. Our nation needs a community-led\, compassionate approach to end-of-life care—one that fosters social cohesion and empowers us to navigate these profound moments together. \nWe invite you to a transformative storytelling event:\nInspiring Stories on Life and Death: A Special Evening to Launch the Compassionate Connector Program \nStep into the shoes of six courageous individuals as they share raw\, personal stories exploring the theme of connection. Their voices will spark vital conversations\, dismantle barriers\, and inspire change on topics of grief\, caregiving\, and the enduring power of love. \nWith the right support\, education\, tools\, and human connection\, communities can come together to face the realities of death and dying with strength and compassion. \nBe part of this important evening as we launch the Compassionate Connector Program—  a distinct form of volunteering to help grow people’s social networks as they navigate illness and personal loss. \nEvent Details: \n\nDate: Thursday 20 February 2025\nTime: Arrive by 6.00pm for complimentary refreshments and mingling. Secure your seats by 6:40pm\, storytelling begins at 6:45pm sharp.\nVenue: Harbord Diggers\, 88 Evans St\, Freshwater NSW 2096\nAudience: 18+\nTickets: $25 per person\n\n  \n\n  \nStorytelling by:  \nPURPOSE FROM TRAGEDY – Terence Kwan \nHow do you respond to the news that members of your family\, including three young children\, have been the victims of a terrible murder suicide? Terence’s story takes you through the circumstances of this horrific tragedy\, the events leading up to it\, how it impacted family and community\, and how it galvanised and provided direction for his sense of social purpose and contribution. \nPINK SLIP TO DEATH – Danni Petkovic \nCan the deepest most pivotal connections occur in the unlikeliest of places?\nAn unwanted meeting with a tough burly country mechanic would change her life forever. His generosity and care would lead Danni to compassionate connectors and carers for her younger brother who faced terminal brain cancer. Ultimately changing her life’s trajectory leading to her campaigning for death literacy through Dying to Know and creating an end-of-life doula service. \nNOT DEAD YET – Jean Paul Bell \nSince 1996 Jean Paul has worked as a clown doctor around seriously ill and dying people\, some young and others at the end of a long life. Working in aged and palliative care\, he has brought humour into serious environments. He learned to read the room\, for some\, laughter was ideal! He is often at his best when the situation is at its worst. As are children who can cut to the chase when the end is nigh. \nMY CONNECTION – A THREE BODY PROBLEM – John Milham \nAs life events and objects unfold\, orbit and create chaos\, trauma and distress\, it is only by letting go of everything he has understood to that point\, he is able to embrace the infinite solutions offered in the 3 body problem he found himself caught in\, and with those infinite solutions opening up new worlds\, John is able to unlock new connection\, and so bring the loss and suffering to some meaning. By laying bare 3 life changing moments\, John shares the learning he found to allow connection to his purpose\, his truth and his freedom. \nMOMENTS OF CONNECTIONS – Helen Nippard \nHelen lives with her extended family on the Northern Beaches and is an active volunteer member with Proveda since 2018. Helen’s story and reflections of end of life moments inspires and takes us on a journey of appreciation of what connection brings. Throughout her story\, you can hear how these experiences are connected\, within and between us. \n\nThe evening includes: \n\nThought-provoking storytelling co-hosted by Monica Rosenfeld\, Co-Founder of Stories that Stir™.\nLight refreshments and opportunities to connect with fellow attendees and speakers.\nUplifting moments of shared laughter alongside profound reflections.\n\n“In moments of death\, the gathering of family and friends becomes a crucible for profound learning and growth. It’s through these shared experiences that communities find strength\, forge unbreakable bonds\, and discover the true essence of humanity.” — Jessie Williams \nPlease note that story content will touch on sensitive topics such as death\, grief\, and loss. However\, we promise moments of lightness and laughter to balance the depth of the evening. \nJoin us for this inspiring event and help create a future where communities reclaim their rightful role in caring for one another through life’s most challenging transitions. \nThis event is to celebrate the launch of the Compassionate Connector program which is a 3 year translational pilot jointly funded by the Northern Sydney Health Network and The Wicking Trust. \nSecure your seat now to be part of this transformative evening – spaces are limited!   Purchase tickets here.

SUMMARY:Improve the End – Building Your Support System as Friendships Diminish
DESCRIPTION:As we age\, time spent with friends and family often diminishes due to increased frailty\, moving\, or loss. Combined with the discomfort many feel in asking for or accepting help\, this can lead to more time spent alone than we might desire. \nThis workshop will guide you in reflecting on how to actively build your personal networks and connect to the resources you need. You’ll also explore the concept of ‘Death Literacy’ and discover ways to enhance yours (don’t worry\, we’ll keep it lighthearted!). \nAdditionally\, you’ll learn about the new Compassionate Connector Program and how you can participate\, either as a recipient or a volunteer.

SUMMARY:Compassionate Connector Training - March 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Compassionate Connector Program is a unique program that connects volunteers – Connectors – with people in the community who are over 65 living with life changing illness. As a connector you will emotionally support and help build social networks with your person\, as well as family and friends around them. This is a little different to traditional volunteering\, as an essential part of your support is to find additional supports in the persons community. This can be connecting with a neighbour\, helping connect with formal services\, or arranging for help in the persons existing network with everyday tasks like getting to appointments etc.   \nBecause of the unique character of this volunteering program\, in order to become a Connector\, the first step is to participate in our very enjoyable quality training before we match you with a participant. This training is complimentary and helps prepare you for the Connector experience. Importantly\, it also allows you to meet others like-minded and is the start of the ongoing support Proveda offers throughout your Connector experience.   \n  \nWhen: Tuesday 18th March (6pm-9pm) – Wednesday 19th March (9am – 4.30pm) \nWhere: Seaforth Village Community Centre\, 550 Sydney Road\, Seaforth \n  \nWhat previous participants say  \n“Thoroughly enjoyed the day. The trainer was wonderful. She held the room well\, provided a safe and nurturing environment giving everyone a voice to share.”  – Simon \n“The content was very relevant. The pace was good. And the environment was respectful and supported.”  – Daniela  \n“Loved the way the facilitator could allow discussion to flow even if it meant changing the schedule.”  – Helen

SUMMARY:Compassionate Connector Training - May 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Compassionate Connector Program is a unique program that connects volunteers – Connectors – with people in the community who are over 65 living with life changing illness. \n  \nWhen: Friday 30th May (6pm-9pm) – Saturday 31st May (9am – 4.30pm) \nWhere:  Harbord Diggers (Curl Curl Room)\, 88 Evans St\, Freshwater NSW \n  \nWhat previous participants say  \n“Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

SUMMARY:Cancelled - Compassionate Connector Training - March 2026
\n  \nWhen: Thursday 5th March (10.30AM – 5.30PM) \nWhere:  Hornsby Library \n  \nWhat previous participants say  \n“Thoroughly enjoyed the day.
