A Death Café is a welcoming space where people of all backgrounds\, beliefs\, and experiences\, gather to share thoughts\, stories\, fears\, and curiosities about death. This is not grief counselling or therapy\, but a chance to connect with others over a cuppa and explore one of life’s most universal (and often avoided) topics. \nFacilitated by experienced Death Doulas\, Angela and Kelly\, this conversation is guided\, inclusive\, and gently held. Come with your questions and curiosities. \nAngela Mizinska and Kelly McDonnell are Death Doulas with a shared passion for death literacy and community education. \nTogether\, they co-host in-person and virtual Death Cafés in collaboration with local councils and community groups\, creating safe\, inclusive spaces for open conversations about death\, dying\, end of life and grief. DESCRIPTION:Many of us in the contemporary Western world view death as purely negative—something to be pushed out of our minds\, shunned\, and avoided. Thinking about death\, particularly one’s own\, is seen as morbid\, if not downright pathological. But\, not long ago\, contemplating death was widely used as a powerful tool that helped us fear mortality less\, put the difficulties of our lives in perspective\, and live according to our higher values. (It still is\, in some places.) By coming to terms with our own death\, we were understood to become wise. \nThis richly illustrated talk—based on Morbid Anatomy founder’s new book Memento Mori: The Art of Contemplating Death to Live a Better Life\, will look at a number of the ways that people in different times and places have befriended\, imagined\, pictured or related to death. We will look at psychopomps—literally\, “soul guides”—understood to help people move through the dying process. We will learn about the “books of the dead\,” guides to preparing for a good death and afterlife experience. DESCRIPTION:The Coffs Coast Death & Dying Expo is a all about Connecting Community with End of Life Care providers and services on the Coffs Coast. It is an inclusive\, collaborative initiative aimed to create the foundations of a Compassionate Community on the Coffs Coast. It is about education\, information and connection. \nFeaturing local 20+ exhibitors from all areas of end-of-life care – including but not limited to: local funeral directors\, celebrants\, death doulas\, aged care\, legal and end of life service providers and educators. \nYou will also find Interactive workshops/activities; Live music acts; and guest speakers.  \nThe vision for the expo is to be an annual event\, aligning with Dying To Know Day Campaign and being held in August each year. This year it will be held on Sunday 10th August. \n2025 is it’s second year running and will be held centrally\, at the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds. \nEntry is by donation through the humanitix link\, or at the gate. \nThis is for all ages and stages of life. \n
