SUMMARY:Comedy at the Crem
DESCRIPTION:Is there a place for comedy in helping people become death comfortable? \nThat is the question that has plagued end of life doula Estella Hutchinson (aka occasional comedian\, Stell Muses) endlessly for years. \nTo celebrate dying to know day\, we’ve got some comedians together to challenge the taboos and show how comedy has a place in conversations about death\, dying and bereavement. \nTo make this event a little bit distinctive\, this once in a life time gig is on at the Gungahlin Crematorium – do you dare to step foot into the unknown or will you just get the live streaming ticket? \nIn person ticket holders get the show\, a gift bag and a tour of the crematorium.  Live streaming tickets available for show only.

SUMMARY:Legacy Boxes - your gift for those left behind
DESCRIPTION:Maya Angelou says your legacy is every life you touch. This is a workshop to re-imagine what leaving a legacy means to you! \nIn conjunction with Dying to Know Day\, City of Swan invite you to join us in August for a series of engaging and enlivening events.\nDeath and Dying for Beginners is an opportunity to gently explore Death & Dying through a personal and community lens. \nMaya Angelou says your legacy is every life you touch. \nThis is a workshop to re-imagine what leaving a legacy means to you. \nEven when we expect death\, it can still come as a rude shock and more often than not\, we are grossly under prepared. While we are alive and well\, we have the opportunity to create something to ease the pain and perhaps even entertain those we leave behind. \nIn conjunction with this years Dying to Know Day theme of\nHave you discussed your final arrangements\, together we will: \ncreate the contents for a legacy / for when I die box which contains both practical and personal goodies for those you leave behind. \nwe will contemplate how we want to be remembered & connect with our living legacy. \nwe will go over some of the legal documentation required at the end of life. \nand explore the more sentimental\, unique\, quirky pieces you may choose to include in YOUR legacy box. \nYOUR actual legacy box is as unique are you. I found mine at an op-shop. You don’t have to have a box ‘ready to go’ to attend the workshop as we are more focused on the contents but do feel free to bring yours along if you have one. \nPlease note Erin will be talking openly about death and dying. If you are not feeling resourced in yourself\, that’s ok\, perhaps skip this session out. There will be other opportunities. \nBookings essential. Please reserve your place here.

SUMMARY:Dying to Know Day x Go Gentle Australia Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Go Gentle Australia is delighted to invite you to join us at the webinar: \nThe perfect goodbye: Hosting a living wake in the age of voluntary assisted dying. \nWhat are the benefits of planning your final goodbye? How creative can I be? How do I have these conversations with family and friends? \nVoluntary assisted dying (VAD)\, which gives eligible terminally ill people the choice of a medically assisted death\, is empowering Australians to better plan for their final days. \nSome people decide to say their last goodbyes at a living wake\, such as Nigel Taimanu who had an assisted death in December after a terminal cancer diagnosis. \nHear from Nigel’s partner Kathryn about the significance of that special and emotional day\, along with insights from funeral director Ben Gibson and VAD practitioner Dr Bu O’Brien\, at this free Dying to Know Day webinar hosted by Go Gentle Australia’s CEO Dr Linda Swan.

SUMMARY:We Need To Know Before You Go
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Advance Care Planning Week\, 17 – 23 March 2025\, and National Close the Gap Day\, Thursday 20 March\, let’s have a cuppa and a yarn\, ‘cause we need to know before you go.  \nBeing prepared and sharing our wishes can ease the worries for family and friends if we get crook or for when that  time comes.   \nDeveloped in collaboration between Ngiyani Wandabaa\, Advance Care Planning Australia\, Centre for Palliative Care Resource and Education and the Gwandalan National Palliative Care Project\, this First Nations resource can be used nationally by community members (amongst family and friends) and professionals (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous).  \nJoin us for morning tea to hear more about the newly developed “We need to know before you go” resource for First Nations communities which aims to initiate culturally sensitive Advance Care Yarning and planning ahead for Sad News and Sorry Business.  \nThe resource includes a teabag holder for two tea bags and a range of questions to initiate yarning such as “who would you want to speak for you if you couldn’t speak for yourself?” or “Burial or cremation? “Where would you like to be\, on Country or off Country?” and a booklet that allows for wishes to be documented.  \nThe inspiration for this resource stems from the ‘Dying to Talk’ teabag holder\, initially designed by The Groundswell Project (now known as Proveda). Proveda and Dying to Know are proud to see this legacy offered for use in First Nations communities. We are proudly supporting the launch of the “We need to know before you go”  resource and warmly invite you to join us.  \n  \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Dying to Know Day
DESCRIPTION:What’s It All About? \nWe are all impacted by death in our lives. It might be for the people we love\, or it might be our own. \nMcGlynn Hunt Funerals have organised a Dying to Know Day\, held at our premises\, 38-40 Madden Ave\, Mildura on Tuesday\, 5th August. \nD2KD seeks to inspire individuals to prepare for the inevitable not with fear\, but with purpose\, love\, and a focus on legacy. It provides a safe space designed to normalise discussions surrounding death\, dying\, and grief. This initiative encourages individuals to learn about\, engage in\, and plan for their own end-of-life experiences while also supporting others in doing the same. \nWe have invited several guest speakers who will deliver presentations and share valuable insights on end-of-life arrangements. Followed by a Q&A session. \nAttendees are encouraged to participate in an open discussion with both the speakers & MHF staff. Additionally\, visitors are invited to tour our facilities. \nTogether\, we can break down the stigma and sense of awkwardness associated with conversations about death\, dying and grief.
