You’ll create a personal collage artwork and contribute to the decoration of a Daisy Box cardboard casket — a symbolic act of collective care and reflection.\nNo art experience needed — just curiosity and heart. \n📝 12.30pm – 2pm | Memento Mori Death Slam Workshop with Pixie Willo\nFacilitated by queer poet and creative arts therapist Pixie Willo\, this writing and performance workshop invites you to transform your reflections on death and grief into powerful slam poetry. Write your own eulogy\, honour someone you’ve loved and lost\, or explore what it means to face endings with openness.\nYou’ll have the option to share your piece in a supportive space — and with consent\, your words can become part of the collaborative casket installation. \n☕ 2:30pm – 4:30pm | Cark It Café — A Death Café with a Twist\nSettle in with a cuppa for an open-hearted conversation\, not a counselling session. Death Cafés are about sharing experiences\, reflections\, and thoughts around death in a safe\, non-judgemental space. \nAt this Cark It Café\, we’re adding our own twist — guest speakers who bring insight\, lived experience\, and practical knowledge to help us navigate the often-avoided topic of death and dying. \nYou’ll hear from: \n\nZoe Hinton from ACON’s LOVE Project\, offering tools and information from the Taking Control Toolkit — a vital resource for older LGBTIQ+ folks and people living with HIV.\nScott Read from Palliative Care NSW\, a queer nurse and passionate advocate for person-centred end-of-life care\, drawing from both clinical and personal experience.\nPlus more…\n\nHolding Space at Cark It Café\nWe’re joined by Jude Tynan (she/they)\, a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist.\nJude specialises in working with the LGBTIQ+ community\, survivors of adult and childhood trauma\, complex family dynamics\, and relationship difficulties. \nFrom 10:00am–4:30pm\, Jude will be there to simply sit\, listen\, and hold space.\nLearn more: opendialogue.com.au/jude-tynan \nThis is a space for connection and dialogue — whether you’re here to listen\, speak\, or simply be in community. \n🎟️ Workshops are ticketed — from single tickets to day packages.\nNobody will be turned away for lack of funds — please email Jewelz at carkitcafe@gmail.com to make arrangements. \n☕ The Death Café is FREE\, but you must register to attend. You’ll also have the option to make a non-tax-deductible contribution to help cover event costs — should you wish to support. \nThis event also supports Myeloma Australia in memory of my Big Bad Baba — you can donate here: 🔗 justgiving.com/page/jewelz-cark-it-cafe \nAcknowledgements & Gratitude \nThis project is supported by the City of Sydney Creative Grants and the Dying to Know Day grants. \nBig thanks to: \n\nACON The Love Project\nDaisybox® — for donating the strong\, simple\, and sustainable cardboard casket made from recycled cardboard\, weighing just 7kg\, and designed to be personalised with messages\, artwork\, and love.\nPalliative Care NSW\nDying to Know\n\n\nJoin us for this special first event in the Cark It Café series — where creativity meets mortality\, and community meets courage.

SUMMARY:We Need To Know Before You Go
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Advance Care Planning Week\, 17 – 23 March 2025\, and National Close the Gap Day\, Thursday 20 March\, let’s have a cuppa and a yarn\, ‘cause we need to know before you go.  \nBeing prepared and sharing our wishes can ease the worries for family and friends if we get crook or for when that  time comes.   \nDeveloped in collaboration between Ngiyani Wandabaa\, Advance Care Planning Australia\, Centre for Palliative Care Resource and Education and the Gwandalan National Palliative Care Project\, this First Nations resource can be used nationally by community members (amongst family and friends) and professionals (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous).  \nJoin us for morning tea to hear more about the newly developed “We need to know before you go” resource for First Nations communities which aims to initiate culturally sensitive Advance Care Yarning and planning ahead for Sad News and Sorry Business.  \nThe resource includes a teabag holder for two tea bags and a range of questions to initiate yarning such as “who would you want to speak for you if you couldn’t speak for yourself?” or “Burial or cremation? “Where would you like to be\, on Country or off Country?” and a booklet that allows for wishes to be documented.  \nThe inspiration for this resource stems from the ‘Dying to Talk’ teabag holder\, initially designed by The Groundswell Project (now known as Proveda). Proveda and Dying to Know are proud to see this legacy offered for use in First Nations communities. We are proudly supporting the launch of the “We need to know before you go”  resource and warmly invite you to join us.  \n  \n\n\n\n
