SUMMARY:Linked to Life - ChiLL
DESCRIPTION:ChiLL is the acronym for Choices in Later Life\, a seminar program that invites participants to explore their options when planning for dying and death. Those who work in this area describe it as the last great taboo. They are concerned that lack of preparation causes unnecessary distress to the dying and leaves the bereaved with extra burdens.  We aim to confront fear and ignorance with information and resources that will better prepare everyone for one of life’s inevitabilities. \n  \nWe go beyond the familiar “making a will” and whether to be “cremated or buried” and introduce the subjects of: \n\nEnduring Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship\nAdvanced Care Planning and How to Assemble an Advanced Care Plan\nHow and where to lodge your Advanced Care Plan\nPreparing the Family and Other Carers\nTo Do List in preparation for Loss of Capacity or Dying\nPalliative Care – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nWhat happens when someone is dying\nVoluntary Assisted Dying – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nDeath Doula services including Local Resources\nOrgan Donation\nFuneral Planning and How to Celebrate a Life\nGetting on with your life after the Death of a Partner\nBereavement and Bereavement Resources\n\nThe emphasis throughout is about how to access the resources\, services and people that assist in these tasks.

SUMMARY:Hawkesbury's Dying to Know Day 2024
DESCRIPTION:Please feel most welcome to join us at the beautiful mud brick building called ‘Earthcare’ located on the Cnr of Beef Cattle Road and Campus Drive at Hawkesbury’s UWS\, Richmond\, for Dying to Know Day 2024.  Aside of being simply human\, another thing we all have in common is that we are all going to die. The two most important aspects of life are birth and death…. what we do in between those very important markers\, is simply living life however we choose to do that.  So how have you prepared for your inevitable end?  Do you have ideas but don’t know how to implement them? Do you want something unique and different to the handover to a funeral home?  And what conversations have you had with your people about what you would like?  Do you have an advanced life care plan in place or are you just leaving it up to others to sort it out for you (because that’s really tough on those trying to grieve their loss).  Join us for open hearted conversations and awareness of options available to you and your families over morning tea.

DESCRIPTION:Curious about the big questions in life? Join us at a penthouse in Ultimo\, a 10 minute walk from UTS for a special Death Café event\, exclusively for young adults aged 18-25\, as part of our annual Dying to Know Day campaign. SUMMARY:Fawkner Memorial Park Death Café
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Dying to Know Day at Fawkner Memorial Park for an open conversation about death and dying\, facilitated by experienced end-of-life doula\, Dina Smirnova. \nEvent details \nDate: Friday 8 August 2025 – Dying to Know Day \nTime: 6-8pm (we’ll start promptly at 6pm so please arrive ten minutes early to settle into the space and help create the right atmosphere for meaningful conversation) \nCost: Free to attend \nCoffee and light refreshments will be provided. \nWhat is a Death Café? \nDeath Cafes are welcoming community spaces where people gather to talk openly about death and dying over a cup of coffee. They aim to normalise conversations about death\, remove the stigmas\, and increase community understanding and awareness about end-of-life experiences. These conversations happen without judgement and without any agenda to change others’ minds. It’s simply a safe space to explore one of life’s most universal experiences through meaningful conversation. \nPlease note that this event is not a grief circle\, group therapy\, or counselling session. If you’re unsure whether this event is right for you at this time\, please reach out to our team.

SUMMARY:Cark-It-Cafe: Creative Conversations on Death & Dying for LGBTIQ+ : Event 3 of 4
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Jewelz the Hoola Doola of Jewelz A Hoopz \nToday we move\, we weave and we chat… \n🕘 Doors open at 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start \nEvent Schedule & Highlights: \n💃 1 – 2.30pm \nMemento Mori Danse Macabre Movement Workshop with Diane Busuttil\nFacilitated by Diane Busuttil\, founder of Creative Caring Australia\, this movement workshop draws on the historic Danse Macabre tradition to explore mortality through dance and embodiment. Diane’s extensive experience in socially engaged dance and community wellbeing invites you to reflect on death’s universality through creative physical movement that connects body\, memory\, and meaning. \n❤️ 2.35pm | come to get your weaving materials… \nMemento Mori Heart Hoop Weaving & Creative Stories with Jewelz the Hoola Doola\nJoin Jewelz A Hoopz — Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist\, performer\, and death doula — to weave a heart-shaped hoop catcher that you can fill with memories. Bring photos\, mementos\, words\, feathers\, or materials of your own to personalise your creation\, or use the supplies provided. Spin the heart\, weave it\, and let’s dance with life and mortality together. Heart hoops\, tape\, wool\, and strips of materials will be supplied. We will be weaving our heart hoops as we chat in the death cafe\, see below. \n🧵 3.00 – 5.00pm |  \nCark It Café a Death Café focus on Funerals\, Living Wakes & Endings Unwrapped\nWe’ll welcome a guest speaker (TBA) to share insight into the rituals of funerals and living wakes — helping us reframe these traditions with openness\, joy\, and personal meaning. \nAs we turn toward greener\, more sustainable outlooks\, there are many choices we can make for our final send-off. Making these decisions while we are living — and having conversations with those who will carry them out — takes the stress out of guessing what your wishes might be during a time of grief. \nOnce upon a time\, getting buried six feet under was the norm. Cremation has since taken over\, but other options now exist — green burials\, eco-friendly cremations\, and many other options. And of course\, if you want to join in the party\, you might want to think about a living wake before you “Cark It”! \nWe’ll discuss all things funeral — so you know your options\, whatever path you choose. \nHolding Space at Cark It Café \nWe’re joined by Jude Tynan (she/they)\, a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist. Jude specialises in working with the LGBTIQ+ community\, survivors of adult and childhood trauma\, complex family dynamics\, and relationship difficulties.\nFrom 12:30–4:30pm\, Jude will be there to simply sit\, listen\, and hold space.\n👉 Learn more: opendialogue.com.au/jude-tynan \n🎟️ Workshops are ticketed — from single tickets to day packages.\nNobody will be turned away for lack of funds — please email Jewelz at carkitcafe@gmail.com to make arrangements. \n☕ The Death Café is FREE\, but you must register to attend. You’ll also have the option to make a non-tax-deductible contribution to help cover event costs — should you wish to support. \nThis event also supports Myeloma Australia in memory of my Big Bad Baba — you can donate here: 🔗 justgiving.com/page/jewelz-cark-it-cafe \nAcknowledgements & Gratitude \nThis project is supported by the City of Sydney Creative Grants and the Dying to Know Day grants. \nBig thanks to: \n\nACON The Love Project\nDaisybox®— for donating the strong\, simple\, and sustainable cardboard casket made from recycled cardboard\, weighing just 7kg\, and designed to be personalised with messages\, artwork\, and love.\nPalliative Care NSW\nDying to Know\n\nCome dance\, weave\, and create at the third stop on the Cark It Café journey — where storytelling and movement meet mortality\, and every step brings us closer to celebrating life and death with joy.
