The Ten Things to Know Before You Go workshop gives you the tools for these essential planning conversations to flow easily and productively. \nFrom accessing the legal documents to planning a funeral and understanding palliative care\, this workshop covers all the essentials and helps you navigate ‘what’s next’\, in a relaxed\, supportive learning environment with other people who are looking to plan well. \nPrevious participants have left feeling more empowered with knowledge about navigating different aspects of the end of life system. 80% of participants have reported that they took direct action in end of life planning as a result of the workshop. \n\n

Wikipedia has 62 entries on its ‘List of English-language euphemisms for death’ page. But why do we dance around the word ‘death’ with these euphemisms? Perhaps it’s for our own comfort\, or maybe it’s to soften the impact on others\, or perhaps we’re just skirting around the inevitable. \nUsing euphemisms as the provocation\, or the muse\, join poet Clare Bizley\, and visual artist and fashion designer Marlene Kranz\, to respond to one or all the euphemisms. Blow them up\, confront them\, ponder their purpose\, rearrange them\, write a skit\, write your own\, or reframe them. The choice is yours. \nDeath Education and Discussion (DED) sessions take place on the first Saturday of the month and are an opportunity to tackle the topic of death from different angles. All sessions are respectful\, curious\, and may include creative elements. \nThe August DED session is generously supported by the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund\, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.

DESCRIPTION:ChiLL is the acronym for Choices in Later Life\, a seminar program that invites participants to explore their options when planning for dying and death. Those who work in this area describe it as the last great taboo. They are concerned that lack of preparation causes unnecessary distress to the dying and leaves the bereaved with extra burdens.  We aim to confront fear and ignorance with information and resources that will better prepare everyone for one of life’s inevitabilities. \n  \nWe go beyond the familiar “making a will” and whether to be “cremated or buried” and introduce the subjects of: \n\nEnduring Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship\nAdvanced Care Planning and How to Assemble an Advanced Care Plan\nHow and where to lodge your Advanced Care Plan\nPreparing the Family and Other Carers\nTo Do List in preparation for Loss of Capacity or Dying\nPalliative Care – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nWhat happens when someone is dying\nVoluntary Assisted Dying – What it is and isn’t and how to access it\nDeath Doula services including Local Resources\nOrgan Donation\nFuneral Planning and How to Celebrate a Life\nGetting on with your life after the Death of a Partner\nBereavement and Bereavement Resources\n\nThe emphasis throughout is about how to access the resources\, services and people that assist in these tasks.
