SUMMARY:Demystifying Death: Inside the Coffin
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever contemplated your own death? Or your own funeral? Have you ever listened to a eulogy and wondered what your loved ones will say about you?\nThese questions might feel scary or uncomfortable\, but for some contemplating the end can be the beginning of a new kind of freedom. Demystifying Death: Inside the Coffin is an interactive experience that welcomes ideas and discussion around our own death and invites the participants to ‘go inside’ the coffin both figuratively and literally. It invites the question\, “If death is inevitable\, how can it inspire us to live?” \nFacilitated by three experienced deathcare professionals\, our sessions will include meditation\, reflection and writing\, the opportunity to lie in a coffin\, and a burning ritual to bring us back to a place of warmth and life. Just as funerals are followed by a gathering or ‘wake’\, participants are invited to stay for tea & coffee and debrief with the facilitators and discuss their experience. \nDemystifying Death: Inside the Coffin aims to leave participants feeling empowered\, informed and inspired – ready to view death not as a sentence\, but to welcome it as a distant friend they will one day meet\, not with fear but with acceptance. \nParticipation is always your choice. You’re welcome to observe\, reflect\, or take part in whichever activities feel comfortable for you. \nWhen booking please notify us of any dietary requirements and accessibility needs. \nThis event has been made possible by Dying to Know\, who have provided funding through a grant.

SUMMARY:Interactive End-of-Life Planning Workshop in Subiaco
DESCRIPTION:Join Karin Ulrich\, an End of Life Doula\, for an interactive workshop on end-of-life planning\, legacy and what matters most. \n\n\n\n\nDying to Know Day is a national initiative that encourages Australians to have meaningful conversations about end-of-life planning\, legacy and what matters most to them. \nWhile death is a part of life\, many people find it difficult to discuss their wishes with family and loved ones. This workshop provides a welcoming and respectful environment to explore these important topics\, learn about available options\, and consider how planning ahead can support both ourselves and those we care about. \nThrough a guided and interactive exercise\, participants will reflect on their personal experiences of loss\, change and grief. Using storytelling and a life timeline activity\, attendees will explore key life stages and consider how these experiences have influenced their values\, perspectives and understanding of life’s journey. \nThis session is designed to encourage thoughtful conversation\, personal reflection and greater confidence in discussing end-of-life matters.

SUMMARY:Death Cafe by the Bay
DESCRIPTION:FREE A Death Cafe is a safe and relaxed place to gather with people\, often strangers\, to discuss topics related to death and dying. The objective is to engage in interesting\, thought-provoking and life-affirming conversations. It is not a counselling or bereavement session\, rather an opportunity “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”. This Death Cafe is being held in Victoria Point\, Queensland Australia and facilitated by End of Life Doula & Funeral Celebrant\, Jacqui Williams (Founder of End of Life Transitions). \nYou have the opportunity to purchase your own refreshments at the venue. Go to back deck of venue to find Jacqui and others. Street carparking available \nBring your curiosity. Share your questions and experiences. And be part of a growing death-positive community movement that wants to make people more death-comfortable and death-literate.Free to attend community event. You can buy your own drink and snacks and pay at the cafe register when you leave.
