SUMMARY:Ten Things To Know Before You Go
DESCRIPTION:There’s a lot of information out there about planning well and getting our affairs in order. It can be hard to know where to begin! \nThis 2 hour\, in-person workshop by Danni Petkovic (Campaign Manager for Dying to Know) will help you pull it all together and explore end-of-life planning in an engaging\, accessible way. It will leave you feeling confident in knowing what options are right for you and your family\, while recognising the strength of your existing skills and experience. \nOnly 53% of Australians feel able to talk to another family member about end of life. The Ten Things to Know Before You Go workshop gives you the tools for these essential planning conversations to flow easily and productively. \nFrom accessing the legal documents to planning a funeral and understanding palliative care\, this workshop covers all the essentials and helps you navigate ‘what’s next’\, in a relaxed\, supportive learning environment with other people who are looking to plan well. \nPrevious participants have left feeling more empowered with knowledge about navigating different aspects of the end of life system. 80% of participants have reported that they took direct action in end of life planning as a result of the workshop. \nWe will assist you to:  \n\n Plan for the future and ensure your wishes are understood.\n Respond with care when a loved one is grieving.\n Build a support network that prioritises social and emotional wellbeing for end-of-life.\n\nWe will also provide a free afternoon tea afterward\, giving you the opportunity to have a chat with the team at Proveda and other like minded individuals. \nAdditionally\, it’s important to remember that you don’t need to be facing a terminal diagnosis to start planning for end-of-life matters. Preparing in advance can bring peace of mind and ensure that your personal and financial affairs are in order. It’s never too early to make informed decisions\, giving you control over your legacy and easing the burden on your loved ones.   \nJoin us for Ten Things to Know Before You Go to learn more about how to approach these important decisions with confidence.  \n\n

You’ll create a personal collage artwork and contribute to the decoration of a Daisy Box cardboard casket — a symbolic act of collective care and reflection.\nNo art experience needed — just curiosity and heart. \n📝 12.30pm – 2pm | Memento Mori Death Slam Workshop with Pixie Willo\nFacilitated by queer poet and creative arts therapist Pixie Willo\, this writing and performance workshop invites you to transform your reflections on death and grief into powerful slam poetry. Death Cafés are about sharing experiences\, reflections\, and thoughts around death in a safe\, non-judgemental space. \nAt this Cark It Café\, we’re adding our own twist — guest speakers who bring insight\, lived experience\, and practical knowledge to help us navigate the often-avoided topic of death and dying. \nYou’ll hear from: \n\nZoe Hinton from ACON’s LOVE Project\, offering tools and information from the Taking Control Toolkit — a vital resource for older LGBTIQ+ folks and people living with HIV.\nScott Read from Palliative Care NSW\, a queer nurse and passionate advocate for person-centred end-of-life care\, drawing from both clinical and personal experience.\nPlus more…\n\nHolding Space at Cark It Café\nWe’re joined by Jude Tynan (she/they)\, a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist.\nJude specialises in working with the LGBTIQ+ community\, survivors of adult and childhood trauma\, complex family dynamics\, and relationship difficulties. \nFrom 10:00am–4:30pm\, Jude will be there to simply sit\, listen\, and hold space.\nLearn more: opendialogue.com.au/jude-tynan \nThis is a space for connection and dialogue — whether you’re here to listen\, speak\, or simply be in community. \n🎟️ Workshops are ticketed — from single tickets to day packages.\nNobody will be turned away for lack of funds — please email Jewelz at carkitcafe@gmail.com to make arrangements. \n☕ The Death Café is FREE\, but you must register to attend. SUMMARY:Fawkner Memorial Park Death Café
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Dying to Know Day at Fawkner Memorial Park for an open conversation about death and dying\, facilitated by experienced end-of-life doula\, Dina Smirnova. \nEvent details \nDate: Friday 8 August 2025 – Dying to Know Day \nTime: 6-8pm (we’ll start promptly at 6pm so please arrive ten minutes early to settle into the space and help create the right atmosphere for meaningful conversation) \nCost: Free to attend \nCoffee and light refreshments will be provided. \nWhat is a Death Café? \nDeath Cafes are welcoming community spaces where people gather to talk openly about death and dying over a cup of coffee. They aim to normalise conversations about death\, remove the stigmas\, and increase community understanding and awareness about end-of-life experiences. These conversations happen without judgement and without any agenda to change others’ minds. It’s simply a safe space to explore one of life’s most universal experiences through meaningful conversation. \nPlease note that this event is not a grief circle\, group therapy\, or counselling session. If you’re unsure whether this event is right for you at this time\, please reach out to our team.

If there is anything you specifically require to attend on the day – please contact me directly (contact details in post).
