Assisted Care and Housing

There are many reasons why someone struggles with hoarding, and ending up with a very unclean, or unsafe living environment.

These behaviours and conditions might be a result of a number of psychiatric disorders such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia or may even be the result of a physical disorder. Contributing factors may also be due to dementia or another age-related illness, the suffering of a type of trauma, or sometimes from the effects of substance abuse.

We do know that living in unhealthy environments has a huge impact on individuals. They can become even more withdrawn and socially isolated, as personal relationships break down. They may fear eviction from rental properties and be more at risk of health problems. Financial problems are also common.
