Breast Cancer Care WA is proud to host this informative, pragmatic webinar with experienced oncology social worker, Shirley Witco.
Cancer and ongoing treatment can place financial barriers and cause extra financial strain in a person’s life. Even more so for people living in rural and remote locations. Shirley will discuss potential options for income and assistance and how to access these. This will include Centrelink, superannuation and insurance, financial grants, charities and emergency relief. While everyone who is interested is welcome to attend, this webinar will be most relevant for people living with metastatic/advanced cancer, their loved ones, and health professionals.
Shirley has been a health social worker since completing her Bachelor of Social Work in 2005 and has spent the majority of her career to date working in cancer care. She worked for 15 years at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth supporting cancer patients and their families in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Shirley moved regionally in 2021, taking the role of the senior social worker with the Kimberley Integrated Cancer Service team. Based in Broome, she supports patients and families from around the Kimberley region through treatment (delivered locally and travelling to Perth) and into survivorship/surveillance.
Shirley is also an active member of Oncology Social Work Australia New Zealand (OSWANZ) which is an organisation supporting and educating social workers to enhance psychosocial services to people with cancer and their families.
