Belong Shared Reading
Imagine a room where people feel comfortable being themselves. A place where you can speak, listen, share your thoughts, or simply be present. A place where a poem or short story helps you feel a little less alone.
That space is Shared Reading.
Join Proveda’s Belong Club for a unique six-week pilot program where we come together to enjoy great literature and meaningful conversation in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Each week, our trained facilitator Alison will read a carefully selected short story or poem aloud, inviting participants to reflect, connect, and share as much or as little as they wish.
There is no pressure to analyse literature or contribute to the discussion. You can read, chat, listen, or simply enjoy being part of the group. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their reading experience or level of interest in books.
Why Join Shared Reading?
- Connect with others in a warm and supportive environment
- Enjoy great stories and poetry without needing to read anything beforehand
- Take time out of your week to relax and unwind
- Reflect on life’s experiences through literature and conversation
- Support your mental wellbeing through social connection
- Discover new perspectives, insights, and perhaps even a little wisdom along the way
Commitment to the Group
Shared Reading works best when participants have the opportunity to build trust, rapport, and familiarity with one another. For this reason, we ask participants to register for the full six-week program.
We understand that life happens and you may not be able to attend every session. That’s perfectly okay. However, to help create a safe and comfortable space, we won’t be accepting new participants once the program has commenced.
About our Facilitator

Alison is a long-term resident of the Northern Beaches whose love of local community has seen her both employed and volunteering in many guises. After working most recently in the pointy end of mental health, she currently works in private practice as a counsellor.
Alison brings a love of literature to Shared Reading rather than any literary expertise (her English teacher mother will attest to her failings on that score!). Alison has a love of the written word, a fascination for short story, and an abiding interest in our shared experience of humanness, which is often highlighted by these stories.
Alison’s warm and relaxed style allows people to participate in Shared Reading at any level and come away feeling better about themselves and the world.
