Life Rites Funerals Open Day 2026

Meet the Life Rites team members who care for the living and the dead and who are reinvigorating our Death Rites as our Life Rites. 

We’re opening our doors once again for our annual Dying to Know Open Day – a free community event designed to spark meaningful conversations about death, dying and end-of-life care.

Join the Life Rites team at our Hurstville funeral home to explore a different approach to funeral care through a series of demonstrations and conversations. Meet the people who care for the living and the dead, learn about holistic funeral care, death doulas, home vigils, sustainable funeral practices, and even take an optional behind-the-scenes tour of our holistic mortuary.

Whether you’re curious about your end-of-life options, supporting someone who is dying, or simply want to build your death literacy, we’d love to welcome you. You can ask questions over a cup of tea.

We hope you’ll join us for a thoughtful, welcoming day of learning, conversation and community.

Our Life Rites premises exists on the lands of the Bidjigal people of the Eora nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and extend our respect to any Indigenous, Torres Strait Islander, and First Nations people attending our Open Day. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, Always will be, Aboriginal Land.

There are a couple of steps into the premises but an alternative entrance is available. If you would like to discuss access needs, other concerns, or ask questions about the event or venue, please get in touch.

You will not see any deceased persons. Our client’s privacy is paramount. Accessing the mortuary is voluntary and optional. If you do not want to access the mortuary there are many other options available at Life Rites welcoming, warm, and supportive premises.
